Europe recognizes that sanctions against Russia will be expensive

Former President of the European Commission and former Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi said sanctions against Russia could be very costly for European countries, TASS reports.

“I know that sanctions are inevitable, but I would like to draw attention to the fact that their impact will be completely asymmetric. They will cost Europe dearly, in particular Italy and Germany. They will cost much less than the United States, which insists on them so much, but does not have the same trade relations with Russia as we have,” Prodi said.

He noted that he opposed the decision to stop the certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

“Now in the face of tension in European energy markets, it would be a good time to keep this channel open,” Prodi said.

Earlier it became known that the EU may blacklist Putin as part of the third round of sanctions.
