The White House does not exclude the imposition of sanctions against Russian energy

The United States does not rule out the imposition of sanctions against the energy sector of Russia due to the escalation of the crisis in Ukraine. This was stated by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki at a regular briefing.

“I would like to emphasize that the possibility of imposing sanctions against the energy sector remains. We are considering different options,” the White House spokeswoman said, adding that the restrictive measures being introduced should “damage the Russian economy, not the United States,” and this is the “key balance” that Washington seeks to achieve.

Psaki also confirmed that the US will impose sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and representatives of the Russian Security Council. According to her, restrictive measures will be taken following similar decisions of the European Union.

On Friday, the UK government imposed sanctions on Putin and Lavrov in light of the Russian operation in Ukraine.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a military special operation to protect Donbass in response to a request for help from the heads of the LPR and DPR.

Ukraine severed diplomatic relations with Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted a bill on general mobilization to the Verkhovna Rada.
