Talks between Russia and Ukraine started in Belarus

Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine have begun in the Gomel region, ONT NEWS reports.

The talks between the delegations of the two countries are taking place on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border near the Pripyat River. For security reasons, the exact meeting point is not known.

The Ukrainian delegation includes head of the Servant of the People faction David Arakhamia, Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, adviser to the President's Office Mykhailo Podolyak. The Russian delegation at the talks is headed by Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky. According to RIA Novosti, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei is also present at the talks.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a military special operation in the Donbass in response to a request for help from the heads of the LPR and DPR. Ukraine severed diplomatic relations with Russia. The decision to conduct the operation was the reason for new sanctions against Russia by the United States and its allies.

Earlier, the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the key issue in the negotiations is an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of Russian troops from the country. In turn, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov did not disclose the goals of the negotiations, urging them to wait for their results.
