A new wave of Islamic revival in the Baikal region

Russia and the CIS (bbabo.net) - In the village of Zalari, one of the settlements densely populated by Tatars in the Irkutsk region, a Muslim religious group has been created as part of the Baikal Muftiate. The initial task of the new Muslim community in the Baikal region sees the construction of a mosque, and currently local authorities are deciding whether to provide a religious group with a land plot.

“Descendants of immigrants who came to the Irkutsk region under the Stolypin reform in 1913 live in Zalari,” said the Mufti of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Irkutsk Region “Baikal Muftiate” Farit Mingaleev. - At the beginning of the 2000s, a Muslim organization was registered here, but it did not last long. At present, in the villages and settlements of the Irkutsk region, where the Tatars live compactly, there is a new upsurge in religious life, a new wave of spiritual revival. There is already a mosque in the village of Shakhovskoye, neighboring Zalari, in three villages of the neighboring Ust-Ordynsky Buryat district of the Irkutsk region. The Tatars of the Chunsky district are doing a lot of religious work today. For our part, we are ready to provide all possible support to the new religious group in Zalari.

More than a hundred years ago, the Tatars from the Ufa province, having moved to Zalari and settled down, first of all built a mosque. The wooden building has not survived.
