Finland confused the public on the claims of Rosatom

Russia (bbabo.net), - Finnish Fennovoima filed a lawsuit against Rosatom for almost 2 billion euros for the Hanhikivi-1 nuclear power plant, which it refused and said that it was waiting for a counterclaim. The Russian state corporation said that claims have already been filed - $ 3 billion.

“The information contained in the interview with Mr. Joakim Specht (general director of the Finnish Fennovoima) that Rosatom “has not started the official process yet” is not true. To date, Rosatom has already filed six lawsuits totaling $3 billion,” Rosatom said, Interfax reports. At the same time, the state corporation did not disclose the details of the claims.

Prior to this, the head of Fennovoima said in an interview with Helsingin Sanomat that the company had filed a lawsuit against Rosatom for 2 billion euros. The publication reported that the amount of the claim includes an advance payment of 800 million euros and interest payments of 200 million. Fennovoima's official statement says that the RAOS Project contractor is delaying work and is unable to complete the project.

“There are indications that Rosatom enterprises have counterrials against Fennovoima. But so far, no arbitration proceedings have been initiated due to the termination of the EPC contract (engineering, procurement of materials and construction),” the statement said.

In May, Fennovoima announced that it was terminating a contract with the RAOS Project (of the Rosatom concern) worth 7-7.5 billion euros. It was planned that the Hanhikivi NPP would consist of a single VVER-1200 reactor with a capacity of 1.2 GW and would be put into operation in 2029.

The RAOS Project said that the information of the Finnish company is contrary to the facts and the Finnish subsidiary of Rosatom has no choice but to protect its interests and demand compensation for the illegal termination of the project.

The general director of the state corporation, Alexei Likhachev, said in June that Rosatom has a good chance of recovering the spent money in court.

“It seems that Fennovoima decided to use a trick from the history of another Finnish nuclear project, namely Olkuluoto-3, when the Finnish customer TVO and the Franco-German contractor AREVA / Siemens exchanged counterclaims against each other, the expert notes. The customer won. But there was a clear fault of the contractor in the failure of all deadlines. Here the situation is different, there are many complaints about the work of Fennovoima itself,” Alexander Uvarov, director of the autonomous non-profit organization to support the development of nuclear science, technology and education, Alexander Uvarov, noted to bbabo.net.
