US prepares Taiwan for war with mainland China

Asia (bbabo.net), - The United States will supply Taiwan with weapons and military equipment "to repel threats from the PRC." This was announced on Tuesday at a regular briefing by the coordinator for strategic communications at the National Security Council (NSC) of the White House, John Kirby, reports today, September 14, TASS.

"I would remind you that we, under the current [US] administration, are strengthening our support for Taiwan," he said.

According to Kirby, US authorities announced their intention to sell various types of weapons and military equipment to Taiwan for $1.1 billion in early September.

“We will provide them with the means to deal with the threats they continue to face. Definitely from China. We remain unwaveringly committed to ensuring Taiwan's self-defense and moving forward in this area,” the White House official added.

Under the pretext of seeking to maintain stability in the Asia-Pacific region, the US Congress drafted a bill providing for a comprehensive expansion of military support for Taipei and the imposition of sanctions against Beijing. The Senate Foreign Affairs Committee is expected to consider the document on Wednesday.

As Kirby noted, US executive branch officials are in discussions with members of Congress regarding this.

And we look forward to working with Congress on this proposed bill," he added.

Thus, the bill involves primarily giving Taiwan the status of a major US ally outside NATO, increasing the amount of military assistance provided to it (up to $ 4.5 billion over the next four years) and turning the island into the largest recipient of US weapons after Israel, Egypt and Ukraine . This provides for the supply of not only defensive, but also offensive weapons, including missiles. Thus, American lawmakers intend to revise Washington's policy towards Taiwan and significantly correct the course towards mainland China.

In addition, the bill requires the President of the United States to regularly report to Congress on Beijing's measures to "significantly escalate hostilities" against Taiwan. In this case, it is planned to impose sanctions against the Chinese leadership.

According to the plan, the restrictions will also apply to the President of the PRC, the Premier of the State Council, the Foreign Minister and a number of other high-ranking officials of the PRC.
