CSTO mission led by Secretary General Zas holds meetings in Yerevan

Belarus (bbabo.net), - The mission of the Collective Security Treaty Organization under the leadership of the Secretary General of the military-political bloc Stanislav Zas met today, September 21, with the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan, the CSTO press service reports.

The mission arrived in Yerevan the day before. It consists of representatives of the CSTO member states, who are employees of the working bodies of the organization. The delegation arrived in the Transcaucasian republic to study the situation on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan and prepare proposals for additional joint measures.

Earlier, the advance group of the CSTO mission headed by the head of the CSTO Joint Headquarters, Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov, completed its work in Armenia.

Last week, prominent representatives of the military-political leadership of Armenia, including the administrative head of the Security Council of the republic, criticized the CSTO’s response to the armed escalation on the border with Azerbaijan, indicating that they expected more substantial assistance from the organization and targeted assessments regarding Baku’s aggressive actions in the region.

Recall, on September 13, the CSTO Collective Security Council decided to send a mission of the organization headed by Stanislav Zas to Armenia to assess the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and prepare a report to the heads of state after the armed escalation in the region. The task of the mission is to develop proposals for de-escalation. Armenia turned to the CSTO for help under Article 4 of the Organization's Charter, according to which aggression against one member state of the bloc is considered aggression against all its members, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said last Wednesday.
