Russia - Federation Council supported blocking sites selling fake COVID certificates

Russia (bbabo.net) - At the final meeting of the autumn session, the Federation Council approved a law that allows pre-trial blocking of sites with false information about terrorist attacks, as well as offers to sell fake documents, including certificates of vaccination against coronavirus.

As she said, presenting the document, Irina Rukavishnikova, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Construction, the Prosecutor General or his deputies will have the right to apply to Roskomnadzor with a demand to restrict access to resources that distribute:

- an offer to purchase a fake document granting rights or exemption from obligations (this includes fake vaccination certificates or PCR test results);

- information containing false reports about acts of terrorism, as well as justification and (or) justification of extremist and terrorist activities;

- information materials of an organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation due to their affiliation with extremist or terrorist ones.

"These changes will contribute to the information security of the Russian Federation and will allow extrajudicial blocking of illegal content containing information of an extremist and terrorist nature," the relevant committee said.

If signed by the President, the law will enter into force on the day of its official publication.
