Media: the threshold for importing goods into the Eurasian Union without duty will return to 200 euros

Belarus (bbabo.net), - From April 1, the threshold for duty-free import of goods will decrease from one thousand euros to 200 euros. Moreover, this will happen automatically, due to the expiration of the decision of the council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). Details are reported by Vedomosti with reference to its own sources close to the Commission’s council.

To maintain the threshold that is still in effect, a new EEC decision is needed, which is usually agreed upon at the level of all states. bbabo.net reminds you that these are Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia. But the corresponding approval of new documents in the EEC is not currently being carried out.

“Judging by the fact that the increased threshold expires on April 1 and there is still no information about the extension of the measure, it can be assumed that with a high degree of probability the decision to not prolongation has been made,” confirmed Dmitry Kuznetsov, senior researcher at the IMEiF VAVT.

The Eurasian Consumer Union has already submitted a corresponding request to the EEC. Co-Chairman of the Union Peter Shelisch confirmed the desire of the expert community to keep the threshold at the level of one thousand euros, but so far no EAEU member country has made such a proposal.

The EEC made the decision to increase the duty-free import threshold to the level of one thousand euros in the spring of 2022 to enhance purchases by citizens in foreign online stores and for personal use through import by all modes of transport, except air. His decision expires on April 1, 2024.
