Mirziyoyev and Sheikh Al Thani discussed the construction of the Trans-Afghan Railway

Greater Middle East (bbabo.net), - In Tashkent, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdel Rahman Al Thani held talks on a number of issues, including the Trans-Afghan Railway project. In October 2023, Uzbek Railways JSC presented the Trans-Afghan Railway project to the Ministry of Transport of Qatar. Subsequently, consultations were held regarding Qatar's participation in the project. In February 2021, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan signed a roadmap for the construction of the Termez-Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway. The proposed transport corridor, estimated to cost approximately $5 billion, is designed to connect Europe, Russia, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Southeast Asian countries, with a transit capacity of up to 20 million tons of cargo.

According to the press service, at the negotiations Mirziyoyev noted with particular satisfaction the intensive political dialogue with Qatar, the dynamic growth in the volume of mutual trade and investment, and the implementation of large investment projects in the republic by Qatari companies. The rich cultural and humanitarian exchange between the two countries and the Qatar Culture Week in Uzbekistan scheduled for October this year were also noted.

The leaders of the two countries also discussed the worsening situation in the Middle East.
