Unknown escaped from South Korea to DPRK

An unidentified person on Saturday, January 1, in the Gangwon province of South Korea, crossed the border and fled to the territory of the DPRK, Ryonghap news agency reported, citing the press service of the South Korean Ministry of Defense.

“The military were sent to capture him, and during the operation in the demilitarized zone it was found that the unknown person crossed the military demarcation line at about 22.40 (16.40 Moscow time) and fled to the North,” the message says.

The demarcation line between the DPRK and the Republic of Korea serves as a de facto border. The South Korean military sent their colleagues from the DPRK a notice of the defector, but they did not receive a response.

In addition, the South Korean military said that their colleagues from the DPRK did not show any particular activity at the border as a result of the incident.

Earlier, a North Korean defector in South Korea was accused of espionage.
