In the conflict on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, one was killed, five were injured

During the skirmish near the village of Somoniyon on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, five people from the Tajik side were injured, two of them military personnel and three civilians. According to the latest data, one person, a citizen of Tajikistan, died, Asia Plus reported on January 27.

According to local media, the clash began after citizens of Kyrgyzstan threw stones at the cars of citizens of Tajikistan in the village of Somoniyon, located in Tajikistan near the border of the two countries.

Earlier, on January 27, the border service of Kyrgyzstan reported that the situation on the border of the two countries worsened after the Batken (Kyrgyzstan) - Isfara (Tajikistan) highway was blocked. Although the road was later opened, skirmishes broke out between Kyrgyz and Tajik border guards. At the same time, each side accuses the other of escalating and refusing to stop the shelling. According to some reports, mortars and grenade launchers are used during the skirmishes.

Due to the aggravation of the situation, several villages in the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan were left without electricity. While there are skirmishes, the repairmen refuse to go to the line for repairs.

CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas held telephone conversations with Secretary of the Security Council of Tajikistan Nasrullo Mahmudzoda and his Kyrgyz counterpart Marat Imankulov, during which he demanded an immediate ceasefire.

“The armed confrontation on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border should be immediately stopped,” Zas said. “The conflict must be resolved exclusively at the negotiating table by peaceful means. The CSTO is ready to provide Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan with the necessary assistance in resolving the conflict for this. I am sure that the leadership of both member states The CSTO will find mutually acceptable ways to resolve this complex border issue."
