James Webb Space Telescope reaches its destination

A month after launch, the James Webb Space Telescope reached its destination. Recall that we are talking about the Lagrange point L2 of the Sun-Earth system - a location in space where the telescope can remain conditionally stationary relative to these two bodies.

Now the telescope is located 1.46 million km from Earth. During the journey, all the main and most dangerous manipulations for the telescope were carried out: the development of the protective screen and two segments of the main mirror. Now the telescope will have to undergo a process of cooling and long and fine tuning of each segment of the mirror. It will take the device a few more months.

By the way, the same high-tech protective shield that deployed the telescope during its journey allows the illuminated side to heat up to about 50 degrees, while the back has a temperature of less than 200 degrees.
