Tesla bought the railroad to make it easier for employees to get to work

The German Ministry of Infrastructure and National Planning confirmed last week that Tesla had acquired the existing rail track from the German regional rail group DRE.

The railway runs from the city of Erkner to a station south of the factory in Berlin. The new Fangschleuse railway station, located to the northeast of the plant, should be operational soon. Although the Berlin Gigafactory is not yet fully operational, Tesla has decided to make sure that workers can easily enter the factory once production has started.

The test run of the Berlin gigafactory took place at the end of 2021, but the mass production of cars has not yet begun. Now, though, the first Model Y cars produced by Tesla's German factory have already been spotted on the roads.

The documents confirm that the German Tesla Model Y has a range of 565 km, is equipped with a new lithium battery, the most advanced computer system, and an improved audio system.

Tesla plans to produce 1,000 Model Y units per week once production begins in the first quarter of 2022. Tesla's German gigafactory will have a maximum annual production capacity of 500,000 vehicles.
