The video card market may start a little mess with power connectors

Reference Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 graphics cards are known to have a new 12-pin power connector. It appears to be almost identical to the even newer standard connector listed in the PCIe Gen5 specs.

As reported, the connectors are identical both physically and in terms of parameters, that is, this is the same connector, but with a caveat, which is discussed below. It turns out quite an unusual situation. First, Nvidia introduced it over a year before it became the new standard. And secondly, all this year the market did not accept this connector, and all manufacturers tried to use the old ones. And now, apparently, they still have to change their position.

Of course, it should be noted that the new PCIe Gen5 standard actually implies a 16-pin connector. However, the fact is that he has only 12 contacts responsible for power. And the additional four are even implemented separately, so physical compatibility with Nvidia's 12-pin port does not interfere. True, it is possible that in the future another 16-pin connector will be used, which will no longer be compatible with the current one.
