FBI admits buying spyware

The FBI has admitted to purchasing Israeli Pegasus spyware from the NSO Group.

The bureau claims that law enforcement agencies did not use Pegasus for investigations and the purchase was made in order to "be aware of new technologies."

According to the publication, the FBI did not really use Pegasus, but continued to pay for the program - the software manufacturer demanded $5 million from the department for an annual subscription. The FBI emphasized that the license for the software was limited, and they could not use the entire functionality of the program.

Last year, a number of foreign media reported that the governments of several countries used Pegasus to spy on journalists, activists and opposition figures around the world.

Previously, she talked about the sign of hackers spying on the owner of the iPhone.
