Thanks to human rights activists, the possibility of replacing a passport when changing sex has returned to the Gosuslugi

After a collective complaint filed by the human rights organization Sphere, the Russian LGBT Network, the public movement Mayak, AIDS.CENTER and others, the Gosuslugi portal returned to the possibility of replacing a passport for transgender people “due to gender change”. This is reported on its website by the publication "Novaya Gazeta". The option was already on the portal. It was removed in 2020 without explanation. At the same time, the Ministry of Digital Transformation referred to some "technical problems" on the site.

“Back in 2020, it seemed strange to us that the technical possibility of submitting documents was lost specifically for people who changed their sex, although for all other cases of replacing documents, everything worked. But we are very pleased that the Ministry of Digital Transformation nevertheless solved all the technical problems, although it did not go without contacting the prosecutor's office," Ekaterina Dikovskaya, lawyer at the Sphere Charitable Foundation, told Novaya Gazeta.

The applicants filed the completed complaint with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation. In the document, the authors referred to the violation of the administrative regulations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the provision of public services for the issuance and replacement of passports of a Russian citizen.

The use of "Gosuslug" when replacing a passport (for any reason) allows you to save on state duty and significantly speed up the processing and issuing documents. By removing the option to replace a passport due to gender reassignment, transgender people have effectively lost these benefits.

On February 9, the developers of The Sims 4 game announced that they would not release the Wedding Stories add-on in Russia, since the add-on set contains LGBT characters. The previously announced add-on introduced new options related to wedding ceremonies, as well as sets of sims, among which there is a couple of girls Dominika and Camilla. The creators pointed out that the rejection of them is not compatible with the main principle of The Sims - to provide the opportunity to create any story without restrictions. Therefore, the addition in Russia will not be released at all.
