AMD is preparing to hit Nvidia in the budget segment? AMD May Launch $130 Entry-Level Gaming Graphics Card in May

In the current difficult conditions in the video card market, AMD somehow managed to release a 3D card that is sold at a price close to the declared one. We are talking about the Radeon RX 6500 XT. And although in terms of performance it is not a competitor to the GeForce RTX 3050, the cost of the “red” model is much less. And in the near future, AMD may deal a serious blow to Nvidia in the budget segment of gaming graphics cards: according to an insider, AMD will introduce the Radeon RX 6500 in May at a price of only $130!

In the current market conditions, such a cost for a gaming model may seem simply fantastic. For comparison, the Radeon RX 550, which is more than five years old, is currently being sold in Japan and China for about the same money. If the Radeon RX 6500 does appear, it will be a definite hit in the entry-level gaming segment. But what will she be?

RX 6500 is around $130.

— Greymon55 (@greymon55) February 2, 2022An insider says that the characteristics of the new product will be similar to those of the Radeon RX 6400. This model, recall, debuted with the Radeon RX 6500 XT, but is intended exclusively for large PC builders and system integrators. Given that the Radeon RX 6400 is a real-life model, AMD should have no problem bringing it to the retail market. As for the characteristics, the Radeon RX 6400 is weaker than the Radeon RX 6500 XT: it has 768 stream processors instead of 1024 for its older sister, and a lower frequency - 2039-2321 MHz versus 2610-2815 MHz. That is, roughly, you can count on about 75% of the performance of the Radeon RX 6500 XT. For games at Full HD resolution, this should be enough. The Radeon RX 6400 has 4 GB of GDDR6 memory connected to the GPU via a 64-bit bus, as well as 16 MB of fast Infinity Cache.

The question of price in any case remains open: it is unlikely that we will see the Radeon RX 6500 for $130 in retail. But at $200 (given the situation with the Radeon RX 6500 XT, which has not gone up much from the recommended price), it will still be a good deal in the budget segment. Even if Nvidia introduces some model for $200, in retail, judging by the example of the GeForce RTX 3050, it will still be twice as expensive.

The insider also notes that the AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT, RX 6850 XT, RX 6850 and RX 6750 XT video cards may be released in June-July. We have already written about them in more detail: the key (and probably the only) difference between these models and the models of the current generation will be the use of 18 GHz memory instead of the current 16 GHz frequency.
