Media: Booking.com cuts 2.7 thousand support specialists worldwide

Booking.com is about to cut almost a third of its support staff worldwide - about 2.7 thousand people. The reduction is due to the transfer of 12 out of 14 customer service centers to outsourcing through Majorel. Information about this originally appeareddit, but the author of the post soon deleted the material on his own. Afterwards, Booking.com employees confirmed the cut to NL TIMES.

Support specialists learned about the news from a video message from Booking Holdings CEO Glenn Vogel. He pointed out that employees can apply for jobs through Majorel, otherwise they will effectively lose their jobs. Those who agree to the transfer will receive a six-month contract to work at Booking.com. Employees fear that if they refuse, they will not be paid severance pay. In addition, they argue that Majorel will primarily hire only those employees who have worked at Booking.com for several years.

As stated on Reddit, Glenn Foleg's video message could not be published due to the terms of a non-disclosure agreement. In addition to the problems already listed, the user wrote that employees can be transferred without their consent to work in another country and reduce wages. Also, the consequences of the transfer to outsourcing in Majorel are not fully known. In fact, employees do not know how the reorganization will affect their salaries, workload and other working moments.

In comments to a Reddit post, users link the outsourcing to an attempt to evade long-term employee bonuses and other benefits. They are unsure if they will be compensated for the downsizing and transfer as the employees have been offered a transfer to Majorel. Many write that they have only two options - to switch to a six-month outsourcing contract with unknown conditions and salary, or to leave the company on their own. Part of the workers urges not to leave of their own accord and to seek layoffs with appropriate payments.
