Most of the Galaxy S22 will be made in South Korea: Samsung moves smartphone production from Vietnam to its homeland

According to ETnews, Samsung Electronics has moved several global smartphone production lines to a factory in Gumi, South Korea. This is a special measure taken after major factories in Vietnam and other countries experienced production disruptions.

The global decline in production is associated with the coronavirus pandemic. Source reports claim that Samsung Electronics has begun moving production out of Vietnam from late 2021. At the same time, the plant in Gumi is increasing its production capacity for the first time.

Currently, the annual production of Samsung Electronics smartphones is about 300 million units. Among them, two factories in Bac Ninh and Tay Ninh provinces in Vietnam are the largest production bases. These factories account for about 60% of all Samsung smartphone production. The plant in Noida, India has a production capacity of 100 million units. In addition, the company also has factories in Brazil and Indonesia, which adjust their capacity according to local demand.

Samsung Electronics' only mobile phone production base in South Korea is specialized in the production of foldable smartphones. It also focuses on the production of flagship series such as the Samsung Galaxy S series. However, the Gumi plant's share of Samsung Electronics' total production is declining.

Due to the closure of Samsung Electronics' production bases in Vietnam and elsewhere, the company has decided to move its global production lines to its home country. According to reports, most of the Galaxy S22 series flagship smartphones that hit the market will be manufactured at the Gumi factory.
