In Peru, found the mummies of children who were sacrificed

Archaeologists have discovered six mummified children in a Peruvian tomb located in the ancient city of Cajamarquilla near the capital of Lima. It is reported by CBC News.

The scientists said the tiny skeletons were tightly wrapped in cloth. According to archaeologists, children were sacrificed hundreds of years ago to "accompany the afterlife" of the deceased aristocrat.

The man was about 20 years old at the time of death. During the burial, his face was covered with hands.

“The children could be close relatives. They were placed in different places at the entrance to the tomb of the nobleman, one on top of the other, ”said archaeologist Peter Van Dalen, head of the excavation.

According to preliminary estimates, the mummies are from one thousand to one thousand two hundred years old.

Nearby were found the bones of seven adults who were not mummified, as well as the remains of animals, probably llamas, and pottery.

This is not the first time evidence of child sacrifice has been discovered in Peru.

In 2018, excavations unearthed the remains of more than 140 children and teenagers, as well as 200 llamas. The ritual murder took place about 550 years ago.

The publication The National News emphasizes that archaeologists will continue to study the features of pre-Inca culture.

Earlier it was reported that the first evidence of ritual sacrifices associated with the Wari culture was found in the foothills of the Peruvian Andes, in the Lambayeque region. In total, archaeologists have found 29 human bodies buried about a thousand years ago in a sacred place (waca or huaca) near the village of Santa Rosa de Pucala, in northwestern Peru.
