Volkswagen hopes for an improvement in the situation with microcircuits this year

German automaker Volkswagen expects the shortage of semiconductor products, limiting the production of cars, will continue to be felt this year, but in the second half of the situation will improve and provide an opportunity to increase production. This was reported by Reuters with reference to the words of the company's CEO Herbert Diess (Herbert Diess).

“The supply situation is improving, but in 2022 we will not be able to build all the cars that we could sell,” Diess said. “At the same time, we look forward to a further increase in production, especially in the second half of the year.”

Automakers around the world are facing semiconductor shortages caused by supply chain disruptions due to COVID-19, as well as a surge in demand for these products from consumer electronics companies.

In early February, Volkswagen said that night shifts in Wolfsburg would be reduced on some production lines due to chip shortages. Diss said the need for such adjustments will continue in the medium term.

At the same time, Diess noted that the older models of premium brands owned by Volkswagen are already sold out for the whole of 2022 and there is no shortage of truck orders either.
