Google received a fine of another 3.5 million rubles for not removing prohibited content

On February 17, 2022, the World Court of the Tagansky District of Moscow fined Google 3.5 million rubles for not removing content banned in Russia based on the protocol of Roskomnadzor.

Google has 60 days to pay the fine from the court decision comes into force. Previously, Google tried to appeal against such fines, but the court denied these complaints.

Since the beginning of 2021, a Russian court has fined Google more than 20 times for committing administrative offenses under paragraph 2 and paragraph 4 of Art. 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation for more than 40 million rubles for not removing prohibited content. At the end of December 2021, the company paid a third of the fines.

Google does not have a representative office in Russia, this company is not associated with the legal entity Google LLC operating in Russia. If Google does not begin to comply with the law on “landing” in the Russian Federation, then Roskomnadzor promised to begin blocking advertising payments in Russia towards the company.

On December 24, 2021, the World Court of the Tagansky District of Moscow fined Google 7,221,916,235 rubles under an article with a turnover fine for massive repeated violations of Russian law and failure to remove prohibited information as directed by Roskomnadzor. The company has not yet accepted and paid this record fine of 7.2 billion rubles. Google's lawyers challenged the fine. The appellate court hearing on this complaint will be held at the end of February.
