What elements of the Samsung Galaxy S22 are used for old fishing nets

Even before the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S22, the South Korean manufacturer announced a "new material" made from recycled fishing nets thrown into the ocean. Now there are details about this.

Samsung has developed a material that is suitable for use in smartphones and helps clean up the world's oceans. To do this, the South Korean company has entered into partnership agreements with various companies.

Through a partnership with Samsung, Royal DSM is helping to collect old nets stranded along the coastline of the Indian Ocean. The nets are then cut, cleaned and molded under pressure. The result is a sustainable material made from at least 80% recycled polyamide or nylon. Samsung then works with polymer company Hanwha Compound to optimize the performance of the new material so it can be used in smartphones. It is processed into high-performance polyamide resins, which contain at least 20% plastic from old fishing nets. Samsung is now using recycled polyamide resins in key elements of the S Pen in the Galaxy S22 series - the key bracket and the inner case.

As a result, by the end of 2022, Samsung will be able to prevent more than 50 tons of discarded fishing nets from polluting the world's oceans by recycling materials.
