In the popular Telegram messenger, it was discovered that several channels at once massively steal and publish intimate photos of women without their knowledge in order to disgrace or blackmail. This is stated in the BBC investigation.

According to journalists, the leaking of candid shots occurs with the publication of personal information of the victims - their profiles on Instagram and Facebook, as well as indicating the phone number. “They made me feel like a prostitute because they thought it was me who shared my intimate photos,” one of the victims told the TV and radio company.

According to Sarah (not her real name) from Cuba, her picture ended up in the Telegram group, although it was sent to only one person. Journalists noted that they found at least 18 channels and 24 groups that exchange thousands of secretly filmed, stolen or leaked images of women in at least 20 countries, including Russia.

Telegram does not have a specific policy to deal with the sharing of intimate images without the knowledge of the author of the picture, but the terms say that users agree not to post illegal pornographic content on public channels.
