PlayStation 5 had an unexpected problem: the built-in SSD was too fast

Even before the announcement of the PlayStation 5, it became known that the console would switch from HDD to SSD, which promised to speed up loading levels and textures by several times. This is exactly what happened, however, as it turned out, the solid state drive also has a minus - in some cases, the levels are loaded too quickly.

This was complained by Mathijs de Jonge from Guerilla Games, who led the development of Horizon Forbidden West. It came out this week for PS4 and PS5. As Matijs de Jong said in a comment to Engadget, the SSD makes the PlayStation 5 load levels much faster than the PlayStation 4, in just four to five seconds. However, because of this, players do not have enough time to read inter-level tips and additional data about the storyline. Therefore, the developer had to come up with a special button, by clicking on which the loading screen and the data displayed on it can be skipped. Thus, the player can safely read and study everything that the developers have provided for him, and only then, by pressing a button, start the game. Not the most elegant solution, but the developers claim that in fact it does not slow down the loading of Horizon Forbidden West: if the player does not want to see hints, then he just needs to press the X key right away.
