Hundreds of Model Y electric vehicles spotted at Tesla gig factory near Berlin

A video made from a drone that flew around the Tesla gigafactory in Brandenburg, a suburb of Berlin, appeared on the network. Judging by the record, construction and production are moving forward steadily. Hundreds of Model Y electric vehicles have already accumulated on the site of the enterprise. At the same time, regulatory approval for the official start of production for deliveries to customers has not yet been received.

The Berlin Gigafactory is an important part of Tesla's plans to expand in Europe and improve production and distribution efficiency. However, her fate has been in limbo for several months.

The automaker has yet to obtain the necessary environmental permits to start producing vehicles for customer deliveries.

Tesla confirmed last month that the first Model Y units were built at the facility in late 2021.

The automaker also received approval to produce 2,000 Model Y bodies, saying it was needed to further test the manufacturing process. It looks like the tests were successful. However, it is not yet clear when the company will receive the necessary approval. Now Tesla is spending hundreds of millions of dollars to produce these machines, without being able to sell them and recoup these costs.

One of the main delays is related to the harmonization of environmental requirements for water supply. The fact is that the area chosen for the location of the gigafactory suffers from a lack of groundwater. According to the Minister of Economics of Brandenburg Jörg Steinbach, the situation is under control at the first stage (production of the Model Y), but as soon as Tesla expands the production site, more water will be needed and this is a problem. Tesla currently plans to use 1.4 million cubic meters of water per year, which is equivalent to the needs of a city of about 40,000 people. More wells are expected to be dug in the region to try to compensate for the reduction in groundwater.
