Russian and Belarusian players banned from participating in Gwent tournaments

CD Projekt RED banned esports players from Russia and Belarus from participating in official tournaments for the Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. This was reported on the company's website.

The ban decision concerns online and offline events. Since March 11, Russian and Belarusian players cannot participate in Gwent competitions, while the ban also applies to the qualifying stages of Masters series tournaments.

The restriction will remain in effect until further notice, CDPR said in a statement. The studio did not state the reasons for the ban, however, a post on the company's website indicates that the decision was made in continuation of the previous decision to suspend sales of CDPR games in Russia and Belarus. It, in turn, was linked to ongoing events in Ukraine.

On March 3, CD Projekt RED announced the suspension of sales of its games in Russia and Belarus. This applies to both physical and digital copies. In addition, a ban was introduced on the sale of games on GOG: the platform stopped accepting payments in rubles, and it is also impossible to replenish an account in this currency.

"" continues to follow the sanctions in the gaming industry in a separate article.
