Microsoft started testing ray tracing in Minecraft on Xbox

Insiders got access to the Minecraft Preview build for Xbox Series X/S and found that it had stripped down support for ray tracing. The latest test build also includes separate mentions that the version is optimized for Microsoft consoles.

The Verge journalist Tom Warren (Tom Warren) got access to an insider build of Minecraft, and he managed to start the ray tracing mode on the Xbox. It is noted that there is no full support yet, and the function cannot be activated in the settings, but there is a workaround.

First, the journalist launched the game on a PC, installed the official resource pack, and started playing. Warren then closed Minecraft on PC and switched to Xbox, opening the same world. Ray tracing was already enabled, and there was a toggle and more customization options in the menu. In addition, it is noted that Minecraft has a DLSS scaling mode from NVIDIA.

The first mention of ray tracing support on the Xbox Series X / S appeared along with the release of the console itself. In 2020, Microsft presented an article with a detailed overview of the technical capabilities of the new generation of consoles and showed screenshots of Minecraft with ray tracing.
