Russian Post started delivering parcels using Yandex.Rover in two more Russian cities

Russian Post began using Yandex.Rover unmanned delivery robots to deliver parcels in two more cities - in Murino, Leningrad Region, and in Innopolis (Tatarstan).

In Murin, three robots will work in two post offices, and in Innopolis, two robots will work in one office. The delivery radius is 2 kilometers.

Delivery by Yandex.Rovers was launched in Moscow in autumn. As part of the project, 36 robots of the company were involved, which deliver parcels from 27 branches. According to Stanislav Chernin, director of innovation at the Russian Post, the Moscow pilot project showed that delivery by robots is interesting and convenient for the company's customers.

“We are working to ensure that both ground and flying drones become as commonplace as a car that has driven along a route,” Interfax quoted Chernin as saying.

To deliver the order by the Yandex robot from the post office, the client needs to use the Russian Post mobile application. There you can also track the delivery status and the position of the robot on the map.

When the robot courier arrives at the address, the user's smartphone will receive a notification and a verification code via SMS, which must be entered into the application to open the robot's parcel storage unit.

The six-wheeled Yandex.Rover is about a meter long and half a meter high. It moves along city sidewalks at a speed of about 5 km/h. The robot recognizes the surrounding objects around, can go around obstacles and makes its own route. It is also equipped with lidar, which helps it navigate even in the dark.
