ATMs in Cuba started accepting Mir cards

The first stage of introducing Mir cards has been completed in Cuba, the press service of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) reports. Now Russian cards are accepted by all ATMs of state-owned banks in Cuba (there are no commercial banks in the country) for cash withdrawals (pesos).

Currently, Mir is accepted for payment in Turkey, Vietnam, Armenia, South Korea, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, South Ossetia and Abkhazia. It is expected that by the end of this year Mir cards will also be accepted at all points of sale in Cuba.

“The first stage, within the framework of which it was planned to accept Mir cards at ATMs, has been completed. Until the end of 2022, as part of the second stage, Mir cards will be accepted at all points of sale in Cuba. We hope that this measure will help the resumption of direct flights and the restoration of Russian tourism to Cuba," said Juan Carlos Escalona, tourism adviser at the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba.

In mid-July of this year, Mir's technical support indicated that in South Korea it is now possible to pay with a Russian card for purchases in some devices of the BC Card payment system. But it is currently not possible to withdraw cash in the country. Also, negotiations are currently underway to accept cards in Egypt and Venezuela. Nigeria also thought about accepting the card.
