Blizzard talked about the monetization in Diablo IV as part of the individualization of characters

Blizzard told as part of the quarterly report on the development of Diablo IV about monetization in the game, which is planned only cosmetic for character customization, as well as within the premium level of the season pass. The developers promised that it would be impossible to make a character stronger in the game simply by paying for it.

The company clarified that all premium tier rewards, such as decorative items and premium currency, will be related primarily to the aesthetics of the game, and not to enhance the characters.

Blizzard has revealed that the Season Pass will include both free rewards (decorative items, premium currency, and buffs) and paid rewards (decorative items and premium currency only).

As part of the development of the project, Blizzard introduced a store where various decorative items will be sold for premium currency.

“Decorative items expand the possibilities of individualizing the appearance of characters. None of the items offered in the store provide an advantage in the game, directly or indirectly. So while many of these items look like powerful gear, they don't have in-game stats."

Decorative items from the store are an optional option for the game and complement the huge range of transmog items available in the game - from weapons to armor, providing players with almost endless customization options.

Blizzard has clarified that cosmetic items will be available to the player not only in the store, but for defeating monsters. The company believes that the store only makes their choice much wider, but does not offer items that are better than the rest.

The developers have clarified several times that decorative items in Diablo IV open up new ways for players to express themselves, but do not provide advantages in the game.

Blizzard had a problem with aggressive monetization after the release of Diablo Immortal. In the best case, you need to spend $540,000 to fully upgrade a hero, and in the worst case, spending can amount to more than $1 million.

At the end of July, a user of Diablo Immortal said that he had spent $100,000 to improve his character in the game and now he cannot enter PvP battles due to his high rating. In his opinion, the system simply cannot find a character equal to him. The player intends to go to court if the studio does not solve the problem.

A cross-platform game with shared progress across all platforms, Diablo IV will release on Windows PC, Xbox One X|S, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 4/5 in 2023.

On June 12, Blizzard opened pre-registration for the Diablo IV beta queue. To do this, you need to log in with your Battle.net account and apply.
