Why is the production of all components for cars in Russia dangerous? This can lead to a serious increase in the cost of cars.

In an interview with InfoReactor, auto expert Dmitry Popov warned that the localization of the production of all components and assemblies in Russia is very difficult and can lead to a serious rise in the cost of the final product.

If we want to set up our production of gearboxes in three years, then we need to establish casting, milling, assembly of planetary gearboxes and so on somewhere. But in order for the goods to be cheap, it is necessary to establish mass production of one or another unit. And in the conditions of one country, it is not very easy to do this.

He recalled that the so-called "national portrait of the car" does not exist now. Each car is, in fact, international, because it consists of a huge variety of parts produced in different parts of the world. As an example, the expert cited the Russian car Lada Vesta.

“The body is stamped from an imported sheet, most of the components and assemblies are bought abroad, some are produced by us,” said Dmitry Popov.

To simplify the localization of domestic cars, the expert suggested minimizing the number of platforms, as well as unifying components and assemblies. As a result, the same bearing will fit both the Lada Vesta and the electric Lada Largus, the production of which may start in 2024.

Earlier, the Ministry of Industry and NAMI developed a draft Strategy for the Development of the Russian Automotive Industry for the period up to 2035. During this time, it is planned to achieve full technological sovereignty of the industry, ensure the growth of its contribution to the country's economy and satisfy the needs of the Russian market by offering it highly localized and competitive world-class products.
