At least one Russian airline will not dismantle its Boeing and Airbus for parts

Smartavia does not plan to use its own aircraft as donors to replenish stocks of components, the company has enough parts to service the aircraft. At the same time, since the beginning of the year, the number of aircraft in the airline's fleet has decreased from 15 to 13, said Anatoly Semenyuk, CEO of Smartavia.

“Two aircraft at the end of February were abroad for maintenance - they could not fly from there. We now have 13 aircraft in our fleet and all aircraft fly. We have no plans to transfer aircraft to donors, all aircraft are on the wing, all aircraft are flying, maintenance is being carried out, airworthiness is being maintained, ”said Semenyuk.

According to the CEO of Smartavia, at the beginning of 2022, the airline planned to expand its own fleet to 20 aircraft manufactured by Boeing and Airbus. In February, an agreement was signed for the transfer of 16 aircraft to the airline, but due to sanctions, this decision was canceled. At the moment, the company is looking for alternative aircraft suppliers to expand the route network.

As Semenyuk noted, due to the reduction in the fleet, Smartavia's passenger traffic in 2022 is also expected to decrease, but not by much. Due to restrictions on flights to the southern cities of Russia, the airline reconfigured its route network and opened new routes from St. Petersburg to Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, and Volgograd.

Earlier, Izvestia reported that Russian airlines asked the Russian Ministry of Transport to allow them to legally rearrange components from one aircraft to another in order to maintain the fleet in good condition under sanctions.

As of February 23, 2022, Smartavia's fleet consisted of 16 aircraft: three Boeing 737-700s, nine Boeing 737-800s and four Airbus A320 Neos with an average age of 11 years.
