The average taxi ride in Moscow has risen in price by 25% over the year

According to Kommersant, the average taxi ride in Moscow has risen in price by almost 25% over the year. Moreover, the cost of travel for almost all aggregators increased in December by 14% in relation to November, and by last December the increase in the cost of this service was more than 24%.

Analysts of the publication explained that the average cost of a taxi ride in Moscow has reached 520 rubles and continues to rise. Moreover, in November, the average check in a taxi was at the level of 473 rubles.

Market experts name several reasons for the sharp increase in the cost of a taxi - the rise in the price of gasoline, a shortage of cars in taxi fleets and the algorithm of aggregators' work on the holidays, which, due to its dynamic pricing, begins to give out increasingly high prices.

Also, the reason for the increase in the cost of travel was the increase in the number of orders. According to statistics, in the first three weeks of December in ten districts of Moscow, taxis were called 3.28 million times, which is 37.5% more than in the same period a month earlier. Taxis were called 14.8% less often last December.

Representatives of public organizations told the publication that they are observing manipulations in this market by aggregators. They did not record an increase in the average time of car delivery around the city, but current trips, according to their data, have almost doubled in price. In their opinion, the FAS Russia should closely tackle this problem.

Experts told the publication that by the end of 2021, the turnover of the Russian taxi market will reach 1 trillion rubles, and the share of aggregators there is more than 60%. According to them, Yandex.Taxi remains the largest player in a joint venture with Uber, which has a 45% share in this market.

Representatives of aggregators, including Yandex and Citymobil, explained to Kommersant that everything is fine, since the demand for taxis always increases in December, the speed of cars is slower than usual, the level of traffic jams is higher, and their algorithm calculates that the trip will take longer time and will cost more in the end. They did not notice a significant increase at times in the cost of travel and advise users, in cases where they are not satisfied with the price, to choose a higher class of service, where the cost of the trip may be even less during a period of high demand.

From January 2022, the Yandex.Taxi service will raise prices for trips in Moscow by 2-3%. In terms of the cost of one minute of the trip, this change will mean that in the “Economy” or “Comfort” tariffs, customers will now have to pay 1-2 rubles more per minute. Moreover, the cost of feeding the car will remain the same. With the help of an increase, Yandex is trying to compensate for the shortage of cars and drivers, due to which the service has recently begun to increasingly use a multiplying factor for orders.

In December, the managing director of the Yandex group of companies, Tigran Khudaverdyan, stated that the increase in prices at Yandex.Taxi was due to the closure of borders and a shortage of drivers amid increased demand. According to him, the service's algorithm tries to maintain a balance between supply and demand. A decrease in price will lead to an increase in demand, and this will be fraught with the fact that it will be more difficult to place an order and wait for a taxi. Therefore, the company does not reduce the cost of travel.

In November, the media reported that Yandex had warned the owners of gas stations about an increase in prices for using the Yandex.Fuel service. Tariffs for the company's services will rise by 1.2 percentage points from December 1, 2021. Until that time, the cost of platform services was 1.99% plus VAT on payments made through the application, or 2.39% depending on the contract. After the increase, tariffs will be 2.99% plus VAT or 3.59%. Yandex explained that the slight increase in tariffs was caused by "the need to improve the work of the server side and ensure the speed of the application functioning" against the background of a significant increase in the number of partners and customers of the service.
