State Department advises US citizens not to travel to Ukraine

The United States Department of State does not recommend that US citizens travel to Ukraine, according to the website of the US Embassy in Ukraine.

“The State Department continues to advise US citizens to reconsider their travel plans to Ukraine due to increased threats from Russia. With reports of further unusual Russian military activity near Ukraine's borders and in occupied Crimea continuing to surface, U.S. citizens are being reminded that security conditions can change with little or no warning.

In December 2021, messages from the US Embassy in Ukraine also mentioned threats attributed to Russia, and earlier recommendations to reconsider plans to visit Ukraine also appeared in State Department messages.

Earlier, the US State Department said that Russia may be spreading disinformation for the "invasion" of Ukraine.

In March 2014, a referendum was held in Crimea, as a result of which the peninsula became a territorial part of Russia, and Sevastopol became a city of federal significance.
