The fate of an Afghan baby given to American soldiers

Taxi driver Hamid Safi 5 months ago found an Afghan child at the airport in Kabul amid the chaos that reigned in the country. The farewell was not easy: Safi and his wife Frima hugged the baby named Soheil for a long time before handing him over to relatives.

The story of the baby began at the airport of the capital of Afghanistan on August 19, 2021. Mirza Ali Ahmadi handed over his son Soheil, who was only two months old at the time, to a foreign soldier, hoping that he would be evacuated to the US along with his son.

Footage of this scene has been repeatedly shown by all the media and social networks. What happened next remains unknown. Later that day, taxi driver Hamid Safi found the baby crying alone on the airport floor.

Safi said that he approached several women to breastfeed the baby, but they refused. Then many times unsuccessfully searched for his family, after which he brought him to his home.

A few days ago, with the help of the police and social networks, Soheil's relatives were found in Kabul, and the child was finally handed over to his grandfather.

Last Sunday, the child's grandfather, Mirza Muhammad Qasimi, invited Safi's family to his home in Kabul to spend some time with his grandson, whom Freem's adoptive mother never stopped hugging and kissing.

The elderly man did not hide the joy of meeting with his grandson after months of searching and despair of his daughter. “She was crying and didn’t eat anything,” he said, wiping away the tears that rolled down her cheeks.

Now the relatives are deciding how to send the boy to his parents, who were able to fly to the United States, and until then his aunt will take care of him.
