Endocrinologist: chronic fatigue may be a symptom of cancer

Chronic fatigue can be not only a sign of overwork due to lack of sleep and regular stress, but also a symptom of dangerous diseases. This was told to Izvestia by the endocrinologist of the SberHealth medical online service Victoria Sadovskaya.

“If fatigue does not go away even after you have established a regimen and rested, it is better to consult a specialist - firstly, a therapist or an endocrinologist. The specialist will be able to compile a complete picture of your condition: identify additional symptoms, evaluate external manifestations (skin color, mucous membranes, areas of hyperpigmentation or hair loss), measure blood pressure and much more, ”Sadovskaya said.

According to her, fatigue can be a symptom of hypothyroidism (decreased thyroid function), iron deficiency anemia, adrenal insufficiency, tuberculosis, HIV infection, depression or cancer.

According to her statistics, 18% of patients who are treated for depression actually suffer from hypothyroidism.

The ecosystem of medical services BestDoctor found out in a study on the emotional state of working Russians that 62% of employees consider themselves professionally burnt out. Among the symptoms, respondents noted the following: chronic fatigue, sleep problems, occasional restlessness and constant anxiety.

The study also showed a correlation between burnout and the physical condition of Russians. For example, burnt-out employees are half as likely to exercise regularly and eat worse, which more often than non-burnt-out employees leads to problems in gastroenterology.
