Russia - One of the creators of the Spektr-R orbital astrophysical observatory has died

Russia (bbabo.net), - Vladimir Serebrennikov, who was involved in almost all the developments of the NPO im. S.A. Lavochkin. He was 95 years old. According to Roscosmos, Vladimir Alekseevich Serebrennikov devoted 62 years of his life to the creation of advanced aviation and space technology.

This is a great loss for the domestic cosmonautics, when such keepers of unique knowledge and design skills pass away, the state corporation emphasizes. Serebrennikov began working at Machine-Building Plant No. 301 in Khimki near Moscow (now NPO Lavochkina) in 1950. Worked his way up from a design engineer of an experimental design bureau to a deputy chief designer (1998-2004).

In 1980, Serebrennikov was awarded the State Prize of the USSR, and in 1986 he was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor for his great contribution to the implementation of the international Venus-Halley project, for the development of automatic interplanetary stations Vega-1 and Vega-2.

From 2005 to 2011 Serebrennikov provided technical leadership in the creation, testing and successful launch of the Spektr-R space telescope (International Radioastron project). "Radioastron" is a project for fundamental astrophysical research in the radio range of the electromagnetic spectrum. It was based on the unique Spektr-R orbital astrophysical observatory with a space radio telescope on board.

To put it quite simply: an antenna flew in space, and dozens of the largest radio telescopes in Russia and other countries worked with it on Earth. The diameter of the antenna is 10 meters, thanks to which the device entered the Guinness Book of Records as the largest space telescope.
