To protect against a new subspecies of the “omicron” strain of coronavirus, well-known recommendations for the prevention of coronavirus infection should be followed. This was stated in an interview with NBC by University of North Carolina professor Dirk Dittmer.

According to him, we are talking about vaccination, if necessary, using a “booster” dose, as well as observing social distancing measures and wearing masks when in contact with other people.

Dittmer stressed that in order to prevent the emergence of new strains of coronavirus, it is necessary to interrupt its transmission around the world.

He noted that while the world remains a very high incidence of COVID-19.

Earlier, a virologist, professor at the Gamaleya Center, Anatoly Altshtein, said that the omicron strain of coronavirus is highly contagious, so people may experience cases of re-infection with this variant of COVID-19.

Prior to this, the head of the laboratory of genomic engineering at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Pavel Volchkov, said that scientific studies of "omicron" indicate that this strain of coronavirus penetrates the lungs less than other options.
