According to her, there are 8,239 omicron genomic sequences in the national database. "As of today, I would like to report that 253 sequences belong to the BA.2 line, which is 3%. The BA.3 line has not been detected on the territory of the Russian Federation," Popova said.

She stressed that this type of virus is more infectious, as evidenced by the experience of European countries, such as Denmark.

Recall that the BA.2 mutation was discovered by an academic laboratory in the Swedish city of Uppsala in mid-January, it is a more contagious variety of the original omicron variant, discovered at the end of November last year in South Africa.
