Columbiners were equated with terrorists

The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation recognized the Columbine movement as terrorist. This decision was taken in response to a lawsuit filed by the Prosecutor General's Office and took effect immediately.

Immediate entry into force

The hearings on the case were held behind closed doors. However, the verdict of the Supreme Court was announced to the press.

“Satisfy the administrative claim of the Prosecutor General’s Office, recognize the Columbine movement as terrorist,” the TASS court ruling cites.

As RIA Novosti specified, the decision can be appealed, but the court ordered to start implementing it immediately.

The website of the Prosecutor General’s Office noted that her demands were satisfied “in full, the activities of Columbine are prohibited on the territory of the Russian Federation.”

“As established by the prosecutor’s office and confirmed in the court session, the named terrorist organization is based on the ideology of violence and pursues the goals of mass death of people, intimidation of the population and destabilization of the situation in the country through the implementation of large-scale violent actions,” the website of the Prosecutor General’s Office reports.

It is also noted that the participants in the movement "deny generally accepted moral principles and moral values, promote deviant behavior, suicide and violence as the norm of life and a way to achieve their goals."

At the same time, the activities of Columbine are coordinated via the Internet. In social networks, thematic groups of the so-called “schoolshooting” are being created, in which adolescents are “psychologically processed”, their “moral prohibition” on “use of violence and committing murders” is lifted.

“Under the influence of the violent ideology of Columbine, as well as the massive propaganda of schoolshooting, its participants commit resonant terrorist and general crimes. For organizing or participating in the activities of a terrorist organization, criminal liability is provided up to life imprisonment, ”concluded the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Columbiners in Russia

RIA Novosti, citing the FSB Public Relations Center, reported that large-scale propaganda of radical ideology, designed for psychological age characteristics, forms antisocial moods in adolescents and provokes them to cruelty. The agency has identified many large "Columbine" communities on the Internet, numbering about 50,000 users.

Earlier, Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, said that the number of teenagers participating in radical movements in Russia is growing.

“The number of teenagers participating in youth subcultures, such as schoolshooting, columbine, is growing,” Patrushev was quoted as saying by the press service of the Security Council apparatus.

According to his data, the number of young people involved in these movements in social networks has already exceeded 70 thousand people. He noted that the activities of such communities as "bullying", "cyberbullying", "officers" form criminal groups in educational institutions that call for violence.

According to Patrushev, it is important to strictly suppress the activities of movements based on the criminal subculture. At the same time, in his opinion, it is necessary to create conditions so that young people can always find work.

“In addition, given that up to 70% of crimes committed by minors are committed by those who do not have organized leisure, it is important for regional authorities and local governments to find the funds necessary to create cultural and leisure sites, sports centers,” concluded Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

History of the movement

April 20, 1999, two teenagers, high school students of the Columbine School in Colorado (USA) - Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold - planned and carried out an attack on the students and staff of their educational institution.

Using small arms and improvised explosive devices, they killed 13 people (12 students and one teacher) and injured 23 more. The attackers then committed suicide.

After that, in some countries of the world, including Russia, thematic communities appeared on social networks dedicated to those events and praising the organizers of the murders. Some virtual fans of American teenagers from Columbine decided to repeat their "feat", which led to more murders.
