Australians urged to leave Ukraine after Blinken's visit

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison called on the citizens of the country to leave Ukraine. His words are quoted by news.com.au.

“Our advice is clear, this is a dangerous situation, you should try to get out of Ukraine ... We hope for peace, but in case of conflict, we want the Australians to have the opportunity to leave the territory of Ukraine to a safe place - and we constantly talk about this already many, many weeks,” Morrison said.

He recalled that late last year, the federal government began warning Australians in "troubled" Ukraine to "put themselves in a safe position."

His comments came after US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who left Australia the day before, said Russia could invade Ukraine at any time, and Washington and other countries urged their citizens to leave.

Australian Foreign Minister Maris Payne expressed "very deep concern about the presence of the Russian military" on the border with Ukraine.

Earlier, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly called on all Canadians in Ukraine to immediately leave the republic. The minister stressed that Canadian diplomats remain at their jobs and are ready to provide consular assistance to Canadian citizens as needed, but "the possibilities for this may be severely limited."
