Bestemyanova about Valieva's doping: 15-year-old girl could not take this drug

Olympic champion in ice dancing Natalya Bestemyanova, in an interview with a correspondent, expressed the opinion that the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, who passed a positive doping test, did not take illegal drugs.

“Probably they (the Russian Figure Skating Federation) should give an explanation where she got such a test. I have no doubt that Camila did not take this drug, for some reason I do not internally believe in it. Remember, there was a case - an athlete (bobsledder Nadezhda Sergeeva. -) was deprived of a medal because of this substance, and then she proved that she was taking some vitamins, and there was a residual concentration, some kind of garbage from the manufacturer. It's one thing when you drink vitamins that are allowed, and another thing when they contain something - it's not your fault.

I have the complete impression that a 15-year-old girl could not take this drug. This is something heartfelt - why should she? This makes no sense! They have to somehow explain it, and if the explanations are accepted, the situation will fall apart. How else? Lawyers should work hard with this - a decision should be made before February 15, they have only a few days.

Will it affect Camila's reputation if she is acquitted? You know how I feel about this: they would remove everything - and thank God. She can do it, she's a strong girl. There is no need to think about it now - the most important thing is that all charges are dropped, and she can speak, ”said Bestemyanova.

Recall that a positive sample of Valieva was taken by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) on December 25, 2021 during the Russian Championship, which was held in St. Petersburg. The Stockholm laboratory, which is accredited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), reported that on February 8, 2022, a negative analytical result for the substance trimetazidine was obtained in the sample, and the athlete was suspended.

The decision of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) to suspend an athlete means that he must miss any competition, including the Olympics.

Valieva challenged the provisional suspension before the RUSADA Disciplinary Anti-Doping Committee on February 9, 2022. Her protest was upheld on the same day.

Earlier, the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) issued a statement on the situation with Valieva.
