The FSB of Russia has uncovered a new network of underground arms dealers, RIA Novosti reports, citing a press release from the security service.
“In cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the Russian Guard, the criminal activities of 87 residents in 20 regions of the country, involved in the restoration of the combat properties of civilian weapons in clandestine workshops and their sale, were stopped,” the release says.
274 firearms were seized from illicit trafficking, including the German MG-42 machine gun, the Soviet DP-27, SKS rifles, PPS submachine guns from the Great Patriotic War, modern AK-103, Desert Eagle pistols and a silent machine gun intended for special forces "Val", silent sniper rifle "Vintorez". Also, law enforcement officers found 17 kilograms of explosives and 176 hand grenades, 169 artillery ammunition, more than 27,000 rounds of ammunition and stopped the activity of 26 underground workshops.
Searches took place in January and February of this year in Moscow, the Moscow region, the Krasnodar Territory, the Crimea, Dagestan, Ingushetia, the Voronezh, Ivanovo, Arkhangelsk, Chelyabinsk regions and the Khabarovsk Territory.
