The Russians called the main trends in modern education

Global trends in education require new didactics, lesson design and project-based learning from the teacher. Marina Shalashova, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Director of the Institute of Continuing Education at Moscow State Pedagogical University, stated this at the international pedagogical conference "Open School in the Global World".

The six main global trends in education, according to her, are: digitalization, personalization, globalization, project-based learning, blended learning and 21st century skills.

“We recall with nostalgia what a good, advanced education we had in the country before. And it is true. But school is different today. Life is different. The world is different: global, open. Children are different, we call them digital natives, - said Marina Shalashova. – We have the same problems as in other countries of the world: all the trends in education during the pandemic have suddenly become challenges. Therefore, we all need not “correct”, but productive solutions.”

The expert believes that the form of education should be mixed. “We need a new lesson design: not a talking head on a screen for thirty children, but a combination of traditional forms with elements of online learning, which uses special information technologies such as computer graphics, audio and video, interactive elements, and the like,” she said. Shalashova.

She cited the statistics of the American analytical company HolonIQ regarding the digitalization of education. According to the study, education in the world is “under-digitized”: now a little less than 4% of the lesson in the world use technological tools in teaching. However, in the next five years, this share will increase by 12.2%.

The director of the Institute of Continuing Education of the Moscow State Pedagogical University, among other things, described the profile of a modern teacher. He must have seven competencies: educational designer, game master, project coordinator, analyst, tutor, mentor and facilitator. These positions are rooted in the personalization of learning, the main conditions of which are variability, the subjective position of the student and teacher, the active rather than passive format of content development, as well as projects and research, that is, the joint search for solutions.

One of the conference participants, communications director of the international EdTech company GoStudent Dmitry Drygailo, commenting on Shalashova's speech, said that he fully shares her opinion. According to him, in modern realities, the teacher is no longer just a lecturer and conductor of the motto “do as I do”, but acts as a mentor.

“Actually, the popularity of online tutoring is precisely due to the opportunity to get an individual approach using the “powers” of artificial intelligence, technological innovations, including elements of virtual reality, as well as gamification. Not to "scatter knowledge", but to teach to think, analyze, apply it. And tutors - providers of paid educational services - are constantly in search of new methods, new designs, new sources,” he explained.

Previously, families were named in which children most often study online.
