Petersburg arrested two new defendants in the case of poisoning patients with barium

The Oktyabrsky District Court of St. Petersburg ordered the detention of two deputy chief physicians of the medical center - Natalya Surovenko and Alexandra Feofanova - on charges of death of seven patients after an X-ray of the stomach, the joint press service of the St. Petersburg courts reported.

“The court ruled on the choice of a preventive measure in the form of detention of Natalya Surovenko and Alexandra Feofanova, accused of committing a crime under Part 3 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, valid until March 26, 2022,” the press service noted.

Prior to that, the head physician of the City Consultative and Diagnostic Center No. 1 in St. Petersburg, Evgeny Popov, was detained.

Earlier it became known that after gastrography at the City Consultative and Diagnostic Center No. 1 on Siqueiros Street in St. Petersburg, three people died, three more were hospitalized, two of them were in intensive care. Suspicion fell on barium sulfate, a suspension of which is used as a contrast agent for x-rays of the stomach. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case.
