It's more like a belt than a skirt: minis will be the hottest trend of the summer

Extremely short skirts will be the main trend of the upcoming spring-summer season. In order for a wardrobe item not to look vulgar and not attract too much attention on the streets, it must be properly styled. Stylists suggest wearing micro-skirts with long cardigans and oversized sweatshirts and under no circumstances wear them with heels. More details - in the material. Miniskirts have made their triumphant comeback thanks to the appearance on the catwalks of Chanel, Versace, Missoni, Etro, Blumarine, Prada, Miu Miu and promise to become the main trend of the Spring-Summer 2022 season. According to authoritative Vogue magazine, the return to fashion of short skirts was a response to the relaxed clothes that everyone was wearing during the pandemic. Now the desire to open the legs has become more acute than ever. The new mini, or rather micro, skirts feature a more structured silhouette, lowered waist, tight fit and vibrant colors. That's what they were in the 90s and early 2000s.

One of the most striking examples of risky length and fit was featured in the Miu Miu collection. The skirt was held on by a thick belt in the middle of the thighs and ended, barely covering the buttocks: panties stuck out on top, and the lining of the product was underneath. The stylists of the brand proposed to combine such a dangerous element of clothing with a cropped sweater and shirt, underwear was sticking out, as well as pointed shoes and mesh knee-highs.

“I tried on such a skirt at Miu Miu,” says fashion blogger and stylist Ekaterina Katkova. — And it's more like a belt than a skirt. Either the girl should not be very tall, take the model one size larger and lower to the hips. In general, they will definitely suit brave girls!

Of course, such an image is hardly applicable to real life - except that it will look appropriate on street-style chronicles. Therefore, stylists suggest neutralizing the micro-skirt with something more calm and conservative. Ekaterina Katkova suggests taking a cue from Prada, who came up with the idea of combining similar "nano-skirts" with high-waisted shorts.

“So we kill two birds with one stone – we get a “belt”, like decorative underwear, and this is also a trend, and we compensate for the super short length with bottom shorts,” the stylist explains.

In order to feel more comfortable in everyday life in an ultra-short skirt, Julia Manukova, a fashion expert at Lamoda, suggests combining it with long cardigans or oversized sweatshirts, fitted strict jackets, voluminous blouses or cashmere turtlenecks.

Stylists unanimously say that shoes in this case should be chosen exclusively on a flat course and not completely copy the trends of the zero. Sneakers, mules, flip flops, sandals, oxfords, and chunky boots complete the look, while styling options can be seen at Fashion Week shows or influencers who are slowly getting used to very short skirts.

In Russia, the weather lasts only three months a year, so there is no time to walk around in a miniskirt and with bare legs.

Stylist Wanda Wong offers a stylization option for our country. “We wear a skirt with leggings or thick tights from 60 den, which include wool or cashmere, and over the knee boots. Under a white and dark skirt we wear black tights, under a light one we wear brown tights (not beige, not gray and not white),” the fashion expert advises.

Wong advises not to wear colored tights, because there is a big risk of “cutting” the leg into three parts. If, nevertheless, tights in color really want to be added to the image, then two elements should be of the same color, or shoes and a skirt, or tights and a skirt.

When buying an ultra-short skirt, the question arises: will it fit my age? According to stylist Ekaterina Katkova, it's not about age, but about how things are presented. “If at the age of 17 it will be cool to combine a skirt with a top, a corset and similar things, then at 30+ it will be with an oversized jacket, a voluminous shirt and the right shoes,” says the expert. By the way, these skirts are perfect for tiktokers - they are spectacular and look cool on the video.

In Russia, the attitude to clothing is more conservative than in Europe, and even a woman in her 30s in a mini will be looked at on the street with condemnation. But stylist Yulia Manukova suggests not to be guided by public opinion in this matter, but to be inspired by Parisians who wear skinny pants and minis at any age.

If you feel uncomfortable in a short skirt, but are afraid to be out of trend, do not worry. Maxi and midi skirts are also in fashion, the main thing is to choose the right fit and current style. By the way, it will not work to adjust the figure with a low-rise micro-skirt, but the model in the middle of the lower leg will do it perfectly.
