North Korean gardeners sent to labor camps over unopened Kimcheniriya flowers

In North Korea, a group of gardeners were sent to labor camps because their flowers didn't bloom on time, DailyNK reports.

According to sources, this decision was made due to the fact that the Kimcheniriya begonias, named after the late leader of the DPRK Kim Jong Il, did not bloom by the birthday of the former ruler.

Begonias were supposed to be the central composition during the celebration of Kim Jong Yr's birthday on February 16. In North Korea, this holiday is called Shining Star Day.

According to reports, a 50-year-old manager of a greenhouse where flowers were grown and several gardeners were sent to labor camps for three to six months.

In order for begonias to grow properly, you need to carefully monitor the temperature and humidity in the greenhouse. However, due to the lack of firewood, this was not possible, but the excuses and arguments of the gardeners fell on deaf ears.

The Kimcheniriya flower, a hybrid variety of begonia, was bred by the Japanese botanist Kamo Mototeru, who greatly respected the late leader of North Korea.

Earlier, a choreographer and students were arrested in North Korea for learning "capitalist" movements.
