The court, at the request of the Federal Penitentiary Service, granted Russian blogger Alexei Navalny, who is serving a sentence in the city of Pokrov in the Vladimir Region, an extraordinary meeting with his wife, the Russian Agency for Legal and Judicial Information (RAPSI) reports.
On February 15, in correctional colony No. 2, where the accused is serving his sentence, a court session was held in the case against him. Navalny is accused of donation fraud and disrespect for judge Vera Akimova.
Journalists and Navalny's wife, Yulia, were allowed to attend the hearings.
According to the state prosecutor, Navalny stole about 2.7 million rubles, which were donated by four citizens. They believed that these funds would be used to fight corruption.
In addition, Navalny is accused of offensive remarks at a trial in a libel case against a veteran of the Great Patriotic War.
Criminal cases of fraud against Navalny were opened more than a year ago. According to the investigators, Navalny stole about 350 million rubles. The money was allocated as donations to the FBK (the organization is included by the Ministry of Justice in the list of foreign agents and banned in Russia).
